I’d like to introduce you to the cat vomit exercise, coined and popularized by the famous fitness guru, Tim Ferriss, author of The 4-Hour Body.

The cat vomit, as ridiculous as it looks (and sounds), just works. So, I highly suggest you substitute those outdated, ineffective crunches with this simple exercise in your workouts at the Pivotal Fitness Greenville health club. Designed to pull your abdomen in, this exercise works by engaging the deepest muscle of your core – the Transverse Abdominis (TVA) – also dubbed the “corset muscle.”

If you’ve ever laughed uncontrollably hard or had a real bad case of the flu, you know this muscle well. You can feel this muscle aching after hard giggling sessions or after losing your insides.

Fortunately, you don’t have to laugh like a freak or get the flu to activate this muscle in your quest for 6-pack abs. Simply get on all fours and invoke a vomiting cat. Yes, I’m totally serious.

Enjoy a cat vomiting demo HERE! Be sure to practice this exercise for a total of 10 repetitions.

Another way to tap into your TVA muscle is through yoga – something you can do right here at the Pivotal Fitness Greenville athletic club. The yoga practice involves a great deal of core engagement. In the practice, there are many different body locks – or bandhas – created, including the belly lock, which is achieved by pulling the navel toward the spine. This action of drawing the belly button in, engages the deeper muscles of your core, including the TVA, which ultimately contributes to a stronger core, enhanced balance, and more visible abs.

So, if you want to cultivate a stronger core, check in to one of our Pivotal Fitness Greenville yoga classes, or just incorporate some cat vomit ridiculousness into your core exercise regimen at the Pivotal Fitness Greenville gym. Either way, you’re bound to ignite your core!
